Coach Ettore Messina will lead a technical clinic focusing on individual and team defensive structures at the Palazzetto G. Paronetto in Istrana, Treviso, on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 19:00.
The upcoming training session brings one of European basketball's most decorated tacticians to the Veneto region for an open seminar dedicated to defensive fundamentals. Organised by Andrea Marcuzzo in collaboration with Istrana Basketball and backed by the endorsement of USAP, the event offers a regional platform for coaches to examine elite defensive schemes.
Formation and Access Details for Coaches
The coaching seminar is structured as an open educational resource for basketball instructors across Italy. Participation in the Istrana clinic is entirely free of charge, though advanced registration is mandatory via email at clinic@usap.it. The session draws interest from a wide spectrum of the national basketball community, welcoming coaches, instructors, athletic trainers, and CNA members regardless of their competitive tier.
USAP president Roberto di Lorenzo noted that sessions featuring a technician of Messina's background provide vital professional development, supporting the broader circulation of technical culture within the sport. Organiser Andrea Marcuzzo echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the value of sharing high-level defensive principles with coaches operating at all levels of the game.
Commemorating Omar Frassetto in Istrana
Beyond the technical basketball curriculum, the November 9 gathering at the Via Capitello facility carries deep emotional significance for the local sporting community. Before Messina takes the floor to dissect individual and team defensive tactics, organizers have scheduled a tribute to honor Omar Frassetto.
Frassetto tragically lost his life on the basketball court forty years ago during a match where he was coached by Andrea Marcuzzo. Bringing together the modern coaching fraternity allows the event to maintain the memory of a figure whose loss profoundly impacted those who shared the court with him.
Ettore Messina Brings FIBA Pedigree to Istrana Seminar
Ettore Messina enters the Istrana seminar holding a distinguished record in both domestic and international competition. Recognized as a member of the FIBA Hall of Fame, his resume features four Euroleague titles, and defense has long characterized the teams he has coached.
Local organizers secured the venue at Via Capitello 43 to accommodate attendees traveling from across the Veneto and from all over Italy. The collaborative effort between Istrana Basketball and USAP highlights an effort to bring elite tactical instruction directly to local gymnasiums.
Clinic Proceedings Commence Following Memorial Tribute
The clinic proceedings will commence promptly at 19:00 on Monday, November 9, 2026, following the memorial tribute for Omar Frassetto. Interested participants must secure their attendance by completing the registration process through the designated email channel before arrival at the Palazzetto G. Paronetto.
