The Eastern Region Open Educational Resources (OER) Team held its general meeting on Monday, 2 November 2026, at the Information and Documentation Center of the University of Benghazi in Al-Humaidah. The meeting was held within the framework of the Digital Transformation Project for Libyan Universities, coordinated by the Coordinator of the Digital Transformation Project for Libyan Universities in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Libya and under the supervision of the UNESCO Regional Office in Morocco. It aimed to strengthen cooperation and coordination in developing open educational resources and digital repositories across Libyan universities.
Discussions focused on coordinating efforts, exchanging expertise, and improving access to educational content and research outputs. Participants also explored the proposed establishment of the Libyan Center for Open Educational Resources and Digital Repositories, including its potential role in building national capacities, preserving knowledge, and promoting open access. The team also coordinated and consulted on resuming the implementation of training packages designed to raise awareness and build the capacity of OER team members at universities in the Eastern Region, and urged universities that have not yet nominated a member to join the OER team to expedite the nomination of their representative and communicate with the National Coordinator in this regard. The meeting also discussed holding an introductory workshop in the coming period to raise awareness of the project's importance, objectives, implementation phases, and timeline.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration among Libyan universities and expand the use of digital technologies to support education and scientific research.
